Boys’ Brigade – Anchor Boys (P1-P3)

7 April @ 18:15 - 21:15

Event Series Event Series (See All)

Within our church we have a two very healthy and active Boys’ Brigade Companies, Glasgow 231 and Glasgow 278. Both companies have a separate Anchor Boys and a Junior Section. In Company Section 231 and 278 meet jointly.

All sections follow age group appropriate programmes based on six areas: get active, get into the bible, get creative, get learning, get adventurous and get involved. The Battalion provides enormous resource of activities and support which each section can access as well as opportunities to attend competitions and events.

The adventure begins in Anchor Boys from the ages of 5 to 8, the Boys are recognised by their red sweatshirts and often red faces after an exciting and energetic session. They meet and engage in lots of fun, games and activities, quizzes and crafts. They are introduced to the Bible and listen and learn from different stories. Highlights include annual colouring competitions, Halloween and Christmas parties, pancake day and achieving badges throughout the session culminating in the annual display and parents evening which is always great fun.

The Boys then progress to the Junior Section, which involves Boys from the age of 8 to 11. This section can be recognised by their royal blue sweatshirts. In the Junior Section the Boys continue with some of the activities carried out in the Anchor Boys but progress to more challenging activities such as increased responsibilities of squad membership and leadership, being introduced to more advanced drill which teaches the Boys teamwork, following instructions, respect and learning a new skill. We have a Bible story using the book “Bible stories for Brave Boys”. It offers an exciting way for the Boys to study the brave and godly men in the Bible. The Boys enjoy a whole range of energetic games and team challenges, quizzes and crafts. Highlights include our annual pantomime outing, Easter parties and the year culminates with annual prize givings and displays.

The Company Section is for Boys from age 11 to 17 and the Section is recognised by its blue shirt, tie and hat. The young men have the opportunity to develop existing skills and learn new ones through a fun, balanced and challenging programme. They are encouraged to have a say and help shape their own programme, enjoy playing sports, being creative, enjoying opportunities to meet other companies for quiz nights and sporting competitions. Bible knowledge and drill becomes increasingly important for the Boys, and they progress to a much higher level of competence with the Boys recently recommencing participation drill competitions. The Boys work towards obtaining their President’s and King’s Badge, this includes taking part in a residential experience, volunteering in their community and church, learning a new skill and growing in their knowledge of the Christian faith. The King’s Badge is the highest award in the Boys’ Brigade and a prestigious achievement for all who achieve it

The sections and companies come together for church services during the year, most notably Remembrance Sunday.

The Boys’ Brigade is the oldest uniformed organisation in the world, being founded in Glasgow by Sir William Alexander Smith in 1883 with the Object of “The advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among Boy and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.”

We welcome all Boys to get involved in the adventure!
