SUMMARY:Netherlee and Stamperland Church Monday Lunch Club
DESCRIPTION:Who We Are The Monday Lunch Club has been running for 10 years and was started by Niall Illingworth. We meet every Monday from 11:00 AM to around 1:30 PM. \nWe are a not-for-profit group\, which means we don’t make money from our activities. To help cover the cost of food\, heating\, and transport\, we ask each member to pay £5 per week. Our club is run by kind\, fully vetted\, volunteers who all have experience working with older adults and contribute their time to help keep things running smoothly. \nWho Can Join? Our members are people who have early-stage dementia or are experiencing some memory loss. They can be referred by family\, friends\, local residents\, church members\, or social services. We usually have 12-15 members at a time\, but we currently have space for more. \nTo join\, a family member or carer fills out a short form with emergency contact details\, medical information\, and some fun facts about the new member—like their hobbies\, past jobs\, and favourite holidays. This helps our volunteers start friendly conversations. \nGetting Here The club is held at Netherlee and Stamperland Church. The main entrance is on Ormonde Avenue\, and there is wheelchair access at the side entrance on Ormonde Drive. There are also accessible toilets available. \nWe offer pick-up and drop-off for members who live close to the church\, but some families prefer to bring their loved one themselves. We ask that taxis not be used\, as timing can sometimes be tricky. \nWhat We Do \n\nWelcome Time: We start with tea\, coffee\, and homemade baking in a small hall\, where members and volunteers chat and catch up.\nActivities: Some members play board games like dominoes and jigsaw puzzles\, while others enjoy manicures. There’s also carpet bowling and putting (golf) in the church sanctuary.\nFun & Games: At around 12:15 PM\, everyone gathers in the main hall for a quiz\, bingo\, karaoke-style singing\, or a fun exercise session to music.\nLunch Time: Around 12:55 PM\, we have a delicious homemade lunch of soup and sandwiches. In summer\, we enjoy cold drinks\, sandwiches\, and a treat like ice cream or custard. We also like to send members home with a little snack for later.\n\nHome time is at 1:30 PM. \nWant to Know More? For more details\, contact Charlie Curran at charlie_curran@hotmail.com.

SUMMARY:Boys’ Brigade - Anchor Boys (P1-P3)
DESCRIPTION:Within our church we have a two very healthy and active Boys’ Brigade Companies\, Glasgow 231 and Glasgow 278. Both companies have a separate Anchor Boys and a Junior Section. In Company Section 231 and 278 meet jointly. \nAll sections follow age group appropriate programmes based on six areas: get active\, get into the bible\, get creative\, get learning\, get adventurous and get involved. The Battalion provides enormous resource of activities and support which each section can access as well as opportunities to attend competitions and events. \nThe adventure begins in Anchor Boys from the ages of 5 to 8\, the Boys are recognised by their red sweatshirts and often red faces after an exciting and energetic session. They meet and engage in lots of fun\, games and activities\, quizzes and crafts. They are introduced to the Bible and listen and learn from different stories. Highlights include annual colouring competitions\, Halloween and Christmas parties\, pancake day and achieving badges throughout the session culminating in the annual display and parents evening which is always great fun. \nThe Boys then progress to the Junior Section\, which involves Boys from the age of 8 to 11. This section can be recognised by their royal blue sweatshirts. In the Junior Section the Boys continue with some of the activities carried out in the Anchor Boys but progress to more challenging activities such as increased responsibilities of squad membership and leadership\, being introduced to more advanced drill which teaches the Boys teamwork\, following instructions\, respect and learning a new skill. We have a Bible story using the book “Bible stories for Brave Boys”. It offers an exciting way for the Boys to study the brave and godly men in the Bible. The Boys enjoy a whole range of energetic games and team challenges\, quizzes and crafts. Highlights include our annual pantomime outing\, Easter parties and the year culminates with annual prize givings and displays. \nThe Company Section is for Boys from age 11 to 17 and the Section is recognised by its blue shirt\, tie and hat. The young men have the opportunity to develop existing skills and learn new ones through a fun\, balanced and challenging programme. They are encouraged to have a say and help shape their own programme\, enjoy playing sports\, being creative\, enjoying opportunities to meet other companies for quiz nights and sporting competitions. Bible knowledge and drill becomes increasingly important for the Boys\, and they progress to a much higher level of competence with the Boys recently recommencing participation drill competitions. The Boys work towards obtaining their President’s and King’s Badge\, this includes taking part in a residential experience\, volunteering in their community and church\, learning a new skill and growing in their knowledge of the Christian faith. The King’s Badge is the highest award in the Boys’ Brigade and a prestigious achievement for all who achieve it \nThe sections and companies come together for church services during the year\, most notably Remembrance Sunday. \nThe Boys’ Brigade is the oldest uniformed organisation in the world\, being founded in Glasgow by Sir William Alexander Smith in 1883 with the Object of “The advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among Boy and the promotion of habits of obedience\, reverence\, discipline\, self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.” \nWe welcome all Boys to get involved in the adventure! \n278 Glasgow Company \nAnchor Boys (P1-P3) meet on Monday evenings from 6.15pm-7.15pm \nJunior Section (P4-P6) meets on Tuesday evenings from 7pm-8.30pm \nCompany Section (P7-S6) meets on Friday evenings from 7.30pm – 10pm \nThe Company Captain is Alistair Haw who can be contacted via alistairhaw@yahoo.co.uk and 07434 521 928 \nFind out more about 278 (Netherlee) Boys’ Brigade via Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/netherleeboysbrigade \n231 Glasgow Company \nAll sections (Anchor Boys\, Junior and Company Section) meet on Friday evenings.  \nThe Captain of the 231st Glasgow Company is Mr Peter Dale. Mr Dale’s mobile number is 0787 644 2787. \nThe Junior and Anchors Section is led by Mr Scott Russell.  \nMr Russell can be contacted by e-mail email:  scottrussell87@hotmail.co.uk \nFind out more about 231 Company Junior Boys’ Brigade via Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/290802377622208 \n

SUMMARY:Boys' Brigade Junior Section (P4-P6)
\nMr Russell can be contacted by e-mail email:  scottrussell87@hotmail.co.uk \nFind out more about 231 Company Junior Boys’ Brigade via Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/290802377622208

SUMMARY:Church Choir
DESCRIPTION:The Netherlee and Stamperland Church Choir has a long tradition of singing as part of worship. Directed by Steven Crawford\, the choir meets weekly on Thursdays from September to May and performs at Sunday services. They enjoy a wide variety of sacred music\, from Bach to John Rutter. During major church festivals like Christmas and Easter\, additional volunteers join the choir for special performances. The choir also occasionally performs large choral works like “Stainer’s Crucifixion” and “Faure’s Requiem.” Rehearsals are fun\, with a close bond between members\, making it a rewarding experience. Social events\, such as a Christmas dinner and annual golf tournament\, add to the enjoyment. New members are always welcome to join\, whether regularly or for special events. \nInterested individuals can contact the organist at sjcrawford@sky.com to get involved.  \nAs Martin Luther said\, “As long as we live\, there is never enough singing!”
